In one of our prayer walks this week, it started downpouring rain while we were walking so my group got drenched and then found cover under a family’s patio. We got to talk with them and the other people that were waiting out the rain, it was very kind of them to let people wait there. My group talked to the family and prayed over them, and one of the guys recognized me from playing soccer with the kids the other day and said I was good haha. I mostly talked to a little boy that was waiting out the rain, he was 11 and we sat there for about an hour while I taught him English and he taught me Spanish, it was really sweet:) On another prayer walk, we went to this family’s house for two and a half hours which is wild, and hungout with them and talked. There was so much clear joy in the house and family which was so fun to get to be a part of, also one of the daughters walked in and handed me her FOUR DAY old baby, straight out the womb basically hahaha. During a different house visit, we met this man who shared his testimony with us which was so powerful. For 18 months he hadn’t been able to walk because of issues with his legs, and he was hospitalized. Then he had a dream one night of someone saying to heal his legs in the name of Jesus. Then he woke up the next day and WALKED. HOW INSANE. Such an insane testimony to the power of the Lord.

The other ministry this week I had was working on the farm pulling weeds and being in the kitchen, hospital, and microchurch with my team. Farm work was good, my squad has learned to enjoy weed pulling a lot because we get the opportunity to have really good conversations with each other. And I always love being in the kitchen because the kitchen ladies are truly some of my favorite people on the farm, so I squeezed a whole lot of oranges this week. My team went to the hospital twice this week which was cool because then we got to see some of the same patients before and after surgery. One lady was extremely encouraging to us which was uplifting, and it was great to get to know others and talk about Jesus with the patients and their family. At microchurch this week, we watched a video Bible study with the older girls and then spent time in worship and drawing/coloring with them, the younger kids danced and played and had a Bible study. We also had a couple of new faces this week which was exciting.

We have different night activities as a squad each week, leader led activity on Mondays, worship every Tuesday, and squad bonding on fridays. The leader led activity this week was a time for feedback, worship, and we read Psalms over each other to remind ourselves of God’s glory. Worship was live and led by our incredible worhsip team. Hospitality plans squad bonding, and this week we did a zero talent show which means you bring as much non-talent to the table as possible hahah. It ended up being so fun and everyone laughed lots. For example, a couple acts included gurgling the national anthem, dances, random skits, fully improv, whale sounds, and an auction. Me and Elijah learned how to crip walk 2 days before and made an act 30 minutes before the talent show, then me and Jill took people’s stuff before the show and fake auctioned it all off for our act hahaha.

Random: There was a tarantula that crawled over my leader’s foot and it was BIG, then the kitchen ladies helped us catch it and hit it with a broom and the boys impaled it with a stick. I tried a pepper that was the size of a sunflower seed and was not expecting it to be spicy but my face was tingling for a good five minutes. We learned how to play “monopoly deal” and are not in fact addicted to this game. We went to the store this week and bought ice cream and spoons, then ate almost all of the ice cream on the checkout line while waiting to pay, yup. I played soccer with the kids after church on Saturday, I was barefoot and I fully stepped into poop, it like squished between my toes. Not a pleasant experience. Do not suggest hahaha.

  1. A. Jean is very impressed by your efforts and all you accomplish,
sweet pea:-) And I am always amazed how you bond so easily with the people! I am excited to see you ‘crip crawl’ – Ha! Love you to the moon and back, Payton.

  2. Hi Payton,
Well, the one thing you can never say about your experiences is that they are boring. 🙂 It’s so good to hear you are having conversations that count for eternity on a consistent basis with such a wide variety of people. Thanks for the pictures, it is always fun to see your smiling face and those you are interacting with. How precious & special, you got to hold a newborn baby. 🙂

So sorry I’ve missed commenting on some past posts. My daughter, Gabrielle, got married this past Friday, Nov. 15th so we have been a little chaotic. All went well and we are grateful for God’s goodness.

Sending you love and hugs. 🙂
